STAUNTON, Va. — Averett University men's soccer showed improvement Saturday, but Mary Baldwin University pulled away in the second half as the Cougars fell 6-1 Saturday afternoon.
Jayden Davis got Mary Baldwin (1-2-1) started with two quick goals early in the first half. The Fighting Squirrels had four different players score in the match.
Averett (0-4) saw junior forward
Marek Hanscom score his first goal of the season late in the second half. The Cougars recorded a season-high 10 shots, including six on goal.
Freshman goalkeeper
Ryan Barnes, who entered the day leading the Old Dominion Athletic Conference in saves, added three saves to bring his season total to 22.
Freshman defender
Ethan Carter led the Cougars with two shots.
Averett's road trip continues when the Cougars take on Randolph-Macon College at 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 12, for its final non-conference road game of the season.
