DEMOREST, Ga.
— The Averett men's soccer team lost in heart-breaking fashion, 3-2, on the road against Piedmont College on Sunday.
Averett (5-10-1, 3-7-1 USA South) led for the majority of the game, as sophomore
Johnny Kummander scored in the 30th minute to give the team a 1-0 lead, a score that held to the end of the first half. Freshman
Geovany Rodriguez then scored in the 71st minute to give the Cougars a 2-0 cushion.
However, Piedmont (7-6-2, 5-5-2 USA South) then rallied, scoring three goals in the final 16 minutes, including two in the final five minutes to complete the comeback.
Kummander's goal was his fourth of the season, while Rodriguez's goal was his second. For Averett, Kummander and sophomore
Erik Blick led the team with three shots each. In goal, junior
Colton Dutchess made seven saves.
After this, the Cougars return to action on Wednesday when they host Pfeiffer University for the final game of the season at 6 p.m.
