DANVILLE, Va.
— In its final home game of the 2019 season, the Averett University men's soccer team earned a 2-2 draw with Pfeiffer University on Wednesday night on Daly Field at Frank R. Campbell Stadium.
Averett (5-10-2, 3-7-2 USA South) got on the board first, as sophomore
Ty Michelson sent a corner kick into the box that was headed in by a Pfeiffer defender for the own goal in the 25th minute. Pfeiffer (6-9-1, 4-7-1 USA South) struck back with two first-half goals coming in the 37th and 40th minutes to take a 2-1 lead at the half.
The Cougars then tied it back up in the 68th minute, as sophomore
Owen Story sent a corner kick into the box that sophomore
Patrick Miller finished to tie the game up at 2-2. With no more scoring in regulation after that, the game went to overtime. While both teams saw opportunities in both overtime periods, neither scored as the game ended in a draw.
The goal was Miller's second of the season, while Story earned his second assist of the year. Averett took a season-high 20 shots on the night, led sophomore
Johnny Kummander who had eight shots and three on goal. Junior
Colton Dutchess made eight saves in the net, including a pair of game-saving ones in the overtime periods.
Averett returns to action on Oct. 26 to take on Mary Baldwin University at 2 p.m. The winner of this game will earn a berth and the No. 4 seed in the USA South Conference Tournament.
