Averett wins NCAA Division III Special Olympics spotlight poll to earn $500 for future event

DANVILLE, Va. — Averett University's Department of Athletics won the NCAA Division III Special Olympics spotlight poll for November, earning the university $500 for a future Special Olympics event.

After 4,353 total votes, Averett student-athletes share skills, smiles during Special Olympics Fall Fun Day won the November Special Olympics Spotlight Poll by gathering nearly 51 percent (2,243) of the total votes. 
 

In October, around 300 Averett University student-athletes paired up and worked with more than 230 Special Olympics participants from the region as part of the annual Fall Fun Day hosted at Averett's Grant Center on North Campus. The Cougars and their buddies went from station to station to participate in sports drills, share smiles and have fun over the two-hour event.
