GREENSBORO, N.C. — The Averett University women's basketball team dropped a 71-53 USA South Conference decision to Greensboro College on the road Saturday afternoon.
Averett (5-3, 1-1 USA South) led early, taking a 19-14 lead following the opening frame of action. However, Greensboro (4-3, 1-0 USA South) benefited from a 19-8 second quarter scoring advantage to gain the lead and hang on for a 71-53 victory.
Freshman
Courtney Scott led the way offensively scoring a team-high 15 points, while senior
Brooke Carthon added 11 points. Freshman
Briana Payne finished with a game-high 10 rebounds, while adding eight points, a block and a steal.
Averett returns to action on Monday when it battles rival Ferrum College on the road beginning at 7 p.m.
