DANVILLE, Va. — In its 2019 season opener, the Averett University women's lacrosse team came away with the 21-3 victory over Sweet Briar College on Saturday on Daly Field at Frank R. Campbell Stadium.
Freshman
Courtney DeLone scored her first career goal and the Cougars' first of the season at the 27:21 mark in the first half and Averett (1-0) led from that point on, as the team scored seven unanswered goals on Sweet Briar (0-1) to get things started. Averett went on to take a 14-2 lead heading into halftime, leading to a running clock by the end of the first half and throughout the second. The Cougars then scored seven goals while allowing just one in the second half to effectively put the game away and start the season with a win.
Sophomore
Elizabeth Peasley built off her strong freshman campaign by tying the program's single game scoring record with nine goals, one assist and added three draw controls. DeLone was next on the team with five goals, one assist and a team-high three caused turnovers. Freshman
Meghan Eamma added three goals and one assist, while junior
