SALEM, Va. — The Averett University women's lacrosse team fell on the road to Roanoke College on Saturday, 23-1.
Roanoke (2-0) took control right from the get go and carried it with them throughout the first half. The Maroons forced nine Averett (1-1) turnovers while holding a 13-3 edge in draw controls. This allowed Roanoke to spend more time in their offensive third which they took advantage of by scoring 16 first half goals. This offensive pressure from the Maroons impeded the Cougars from gaining any of their own as Roanoke went into the halftime break up 16-0.
Roanoke did not let up in the second half as they recorded the next seven goals in the match to claim a 23-0 advantage. Averett would get on the board with under a minute left in the match as sophomore
Elizabeth Peasley registered her 10
th goal of the season. The Wilmington, North Carolina, native now has 82 goals for her career.
Averett returns to action on Thursday, Feb. 28, as the Cougars travel to take on Hollins University. Game time is set for 4 p.m.
