BECKLEY, W. Va. — The Averett University men's wrestling team concluded the dual portion of their schedule with a 34-10 victory at West Virginia Tech University on Tuesday night.
Sophomore
Sam Braswell won 16-6 at 125 pounds to run his win streak to seven and give Averett (7-10) the early 4-0 edge in the dual. West Virginia Tech (4-8) responded with a victory by decision at 133 pounds to trim the Cougar lead to 4-3.
Averett would turn the momentum in their favor in a hurry as the Cougars went on to claim the next four bouts. Sophomore
Brandon Woody, alike Braswell, collected a bonus point win with a 16-3 major decision at 141 pounds. The Chesterfield, Virginia, native now has a win in his last six bouts. Fellow sophomore
Caleb Harmon grinded out a 5-2 decision at 149 pounds before freshman
Jared Lough won his second consecutive match at 157 pounds. The Stafford, Virginia, native won by technical fall, 18-0. Freshman
Logan Howell wrestled for the Cougars at 165 pounds and was able to pin Clay Fritz to push the Averett lead to 22-3.
West Virginia Tech won by major decision at 174 pounds and by decision at heavyweight while the Cougars won by forfeit at 184 and 197 pounds to preserve the 34-10 victory.
