SWEET BRIAR, Va. — The Averett University women's tennis team earned its second consecutive victory, rolling Sweet Briar College 9-0 Saturday on the road.

Inka Zeilstra and
Kristina Hedelt topped Lexi Culley and Emily Wrenn 8-1 for the Cougars first point at No. 2 doubles. Senior
Heidi Sarkkinen and
Eleanor Crane gave Averett a 2-0 lead following their 8-0 win over Emily Wandling and Lacey Tucker at No. 1 doubles.
Freshman
Rainey Townsend and senior
Ashley Thornton won 8-1 over Ruth Lechner and My-Xuan Hillengras at No. 3 doubles extending the Cougars lead to 3-0.
Sweet Briar (1-5) fell 6-0 in singles play to cap the match at 9-0 as Crane won 6-0, 6-1 over Culley at No. 2 singles to give the Cougars a 4-0 lead and Zeilstra picked up the win 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3 singles to ice the victory.
Sarkkinen, who entered the match ranked No. 21 overall in the country and No. 8 in the region won 6-2, 6-1 over Wandling at No. 1 singles, while Hedelt defeated Lechner 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4 singles.
Averett's scoring was capped off by Townsend and Thornton as Townsend beat Wrenn 6-0, 6-1 at No. 5 singles, while Thornton defeated Hillengras 6-2, 6-1 at No. 6 singles.
The Cougars return back to the court Saturday, March 26 when they travel to Lynchburg, Virginia for a 2 p.m. meeting with the University of Lynchburg.
