RALEIGH, N.C. — In non-conference action, the Averett University men's tennis team lost to Division II opponent Shaw University on the road on Sunday, 5-2.
Due to Division II rules, only one point was awarded in doubles play, and Shaw (2-4) secured it with wins in the No. 1 and No. 2 slots. For Averett (5-2), the duo of sophomore
Simon Levinsson and junior
Mathias Reusch came away with a 6-4 win at the No. 3 slot to avoid the sweep.
In singles play, senior
Abdugani Ganiev's strong season continued, as he came away with an 0-6, 6-1, 6-1 win at the No. 3 spot. Levinsson earned a 6-3, 6-2 victory in No. 6 singles for the Cougars' other point on the day.
Averett was on a five-match winning streak heading into this matchup and looks to get back to that success as it travels to Methodist University for a USA South Conference matchup on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.
