DANVILLE, Va. — Averett University men's tennis edged Bluefield College 5-4 on Friday afternoon at the Averett Tennis Courts.
After winning two of three doubles matches, Averett (6-2) inched closer to victory when freshman
Luis Chen won at No. 4 singles when his opponent retired while trailing 4-1. Freshman
Patrick Shields followed with a 6-1, 6-2, victory at No. 3 singles. Sophomore
Simon Levinsson clinched the match with his No. 6 singles victory, topping Tanaka Rushwaya 6-2, 6-0.

Nicolas Yanes sealed a No. 1 doubles win with an 8-1 score over Bluefield (1-5). Levinsson and junior
Mathias Reusch also won 8-3 at No. 3 doubles.
Averett hosts Pfeiffer University on Sunday at 1 p.m.
