Foy nets hat trick in men's lacrosse loss to Randolph

DANVILLE, Va. — In the final game of a four-game home stretch, the Averett University men's lacrosse team dropped a non-conference matchup to Randolph College, 16-6, on Wednesday evening on Daly Field at Frank R. Campbell Stadium.

Randolph (3-4) scored four goals in the first quarter, before Averett (1-7) answered with two goals in the second quarter to make it a 5-2 game at halftime. The Wildcats started to pull away in the second half, extending the lead to 10-4 at the end of the third quarter before adding three more to start the fourth and put the game out of reach.

Freshman Mason Foy led the team with three goals on four shots, his first career hat trick and the team's second hat trick in program history. Sophomore Joonas Mattila and freshmen Wesley Turner and Marquis Fleming scored the Averett's other three goals, while freshman Ballard Earley led the team with two assists and sophomore Rafael Walker also added an assist. Defensively, sophomore Miska Granlund led the team with five ground balls and sophomore Jacob Shriver had 10 saves in goal.

Averett hits the road on Saturday to take on USA South conference foe Piedmont College on Saturday at 1 p.m.
