DANVILLE, Va. — The Averett University men's tennis team grabbed its third consecutive conference victory with a 7-2 win over Pfeiffer University at the Averett Tennis Courts on Sunday afternoon.
Averett (7-2, 3-0 USA South) has now won six of the last seven matches to start off the spring portion of its season in a red hot fashion. The Cougars started things off by sweeping doubles competition against Pfeiffer (4-4, 0-1 USA South) to clinch three points heading into singles play. At No. 1 doubles, the team of junior

Patrick Shields earned an 8-6 win to get things started. The duo of senior
Abdugani Ganiev and freshman
Fabian Howding then logged an 8-4 win at No. 2 doubles before the tandem of sophomore
Simon Levinsson and junior
Mathias Reusch grabbed an 8-3 win at the No. 3 spot to cap things off for Averett.
After dropping the No. 1 and No. 2 singles matches, Ganiev's strong singles season continued with a 7-6 (5), 6-0 victory at the No. 3 spot. The Cougars cleaned up house from there, with freshman
Luis Chen earning a 4-6, 6-1, 1-0 (10-8) victory in No. 4 singles, Howding notching a 7-5, 6-1 win at the No. 5 slot and Levinsson grabbing a 6-2, 6-4 victory in No. 6 singles.
In its next match, Averett faces conference foe Methodist University on the road on March 31 at 2 p.m.
