AHOSKIE, N.C. — The Averett University men's golf team led going into Day 2 of the Virginia Wesleyan University Marlins Invitational and would stay ahead at the end of the tournament, winning the invitational with a score of 611 which was 35 strokes over par and 16 better than second place. 
 
Sophomore Jorgen Buskbjerg won the tournament on the individual side, scoring a season-best 148 over the course of the past two days. This is the first individual title for Buskbjerg in his collegiate career. Finishing just behind Buskbjerg was senior Ben Potter who scored four strokes better in round two, shooting a 73 on Sunday to end the invitational tied for second with a combined score of 150.
 
Senior Samuli Ahvenoja was next in line for Averett as the Espoo, Finland, native took seventh after shooting a 77 for the second consecutive day. Averett received a huge lift from junior Michael Allen on Sunday. The Greensboro, North Carolina, native shot an 85 on Saturday before turning it around and shooting a 78 on Day 2. This effort helped Averett pull away from the competition as the Cougars scored a 302 on Sunday which was seven strokes better than round one. Senior Victor Hole rounded out Averett, shooting an 80 in round two to end the invitational with a score of 161. 
 
Pfeiffer University and Randolph-Macon College both completed the invitational in a tie for second with scores of 627. Following them, was Bridgewater College who recorded a score of 635. 
 
Averett has a weekend off before traveling to Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, on April 5 to partake in the 48th Annual Marine Federal Credit Union Intercollegiate at Paradise Point Golf Club.
