GREENSBORO, N.C. — Junior
Cody Jones hit his first career home run in Averett University baseball's 5-2 loss to Greensboro College Sunday afternoon in USA South Conference play.

Averett (3-20, 2-10 USA South) scored two in the opening inning when
Brandon Hatcher singled with one out in the top of the first inning, giving way to Jones who parked a home run to give Averett an early 2-0 lead.Â

Greensboro (9-11, 6-5 USA South) would get a run back in the bottom of the second inning to cut into the Cougars lead at 2-1.
Â
Freshman
Collin Clark would pitch a scoreless third and fourth inning before being lifted in the fifth.Â
Â
The Pride took a 4-2 lead following the fifth inning as Greensboro plated three runs in the inning, before leading bases loaded when sophomore
Tyler Butler entered from the bullpen with one out to record back-to-back strikeouts.Â
Â
Butler would repeat his performance in the sixth sending the Pride down in order with two strikeouts. Finishing the afternoon with four strikeouts in 2.2 innings pitched.Â

Clark would finish the afternoon with three strikeouts, pushing his team lead to 30 on the season.Â

Offensively,  Jones and Hatcher led the charge, both finishing the afternoon with two hits apiece, while junior
Nick Winston, and sophomores
Ryan Traylor and
Tanner Bradshaw each added hits.Â

The Cougars return back to action on Wednesday when they travel to Bridgewater, Virginia for a 4 p.m. meeting with Bridgewater College.Â
