DANVILLE, Va. — The No. 18 regionally ranked Averett University men's tennis team suffered a 9-0 loss at the hands of the No. 5 regionally ranked N.C. Wesleyan College at the Averett Tennis Courts on Wednesday.
This was the first conference loss of the year for Averett (7-3, 3-1 USA South), while N.C. Wesleyan (15-2, 7-0 USA South), who is also ranked No. 24 in the nation, remained undefeated in conference play. The team of junior

Patrick Shields played the closest match of the day, falling 8-7 in a highly competitive matchup in No. 1 doubles. Yanes also had the closest singles match of the day in the No. 1 slot, falling 4-6, 2-6.
The Cougars look to bounce back as they close their schedule against USA South opponents, starting with a road matchup against Pfeiffer on April 7 at 1 p.m.
