Men's tennis drops USA South match to N.C. Wesleyan

DANVILLE, Va. — The No. 18 regionally ranked Averett University men's tennis team suffered a 9-0 loss at the hands of the No. 5 regionally ranked N.C. Wesleyan College at the Averett Tennis Courts on Wednesday.

This was the first conference loss of the year for Averett (7-3, 3-1 USA South), while N.C. Wesleyan (15-2, 7-0 USA South), who is also ranked No. 24 in the nation, remained undefeated in conference play. The team of junior Nicolas Yanes and freshman Patrick Shields played the closest match of the day, falling 8-7 in a highly competitive matchup in No. 1 doubles. Yanes also had the closest singles match of the day in the No. 1 slot, falling 4-6, 2-6.

The Cougars look to bounce back as they close their schedule against USA South opponents, starting with a road matchup against Pfeiffer on April 7 at 1 p.m.
