CARY, N.C. —  The Averett University baseball team dropped the final game of its three game series with William Peace University Sunday afternoon by a final of 5-0.

William Peace (8-18, 4-11 USA South) scored the eventual game-winning run in the bottom of the first inning, adding one in the third and three more in the fourth to take a commanding 5-0 lead.Â

Averett (5-22, 3-12 USA South) was limited to just two hits on the afternoon as William Peace starter Austin Skipper managed to keep the Cougars off the board, pitching nine complete innings, walking one and striking out four.Â

Sophomore's
Kyle Lamantia and
Tanner Bradshaw pitched well in relief for Averett as the pair combined for four scoreless innings, allowing four hits, one walk and striking out four.

Junior
George Roos also pitched well out of the bullpen for the Cougars pitching a scoreless second inning, while senior starter
Dillon Roberts allowed one hit and an unearned run while striking out one in an inning of work.

Sophomore
Ryan Traylor continued his hot streak at the plate adding a hit in four trips, following back-to-back three hit games while junior
Zack DeCarlo who homered in Saturday's thriller collected the Cougars remaining hit.Â

Averett will return to action on Wednesday when they hose the University of Mary Washington at 3 p.m. at Owen-Fulton Field.
