GREENSBORO, N.C. — Averett University women's tennis notched another conference victory as the Cougars took down Pfeiffer University 6-3 on Sunday morning on neutral courts at Grimsley High School.
Averett (10-4, 4-1 USA South) took two of three doubles matches to go in front. At No. 1, senior
Heidi Sarkkinen and sophomore
Eleanor Crane teamed up for an 8-0 win. Freshmen
Inka Zeilstra and
Kristina Hedelt also picked a hard-fought victory at No. 2 doubles, winning 8-7 (7-3).
Averett also picked up wins at the top four singles positions against Pfeiffer (5-8, 2-4 USA South). Sarkkinen, Crane, Zeilstra and Hedelt each won in straight sets, with Sarkkinen's win clinching the match for the Cougars. Sarkkinen, who is ranked 16th in the region, won her No. 1 singles match 6-0, 6-1.
Averett is scheduled to play Methodist University on Monday at 3 p.m.
