DANVILLE, Va. — The Averett University women's tennis team fell 6-3 to 20th regionally-ranked Methodist University on Monday.
Methodist won the match at No. 3 doubles to take the early lead in the match before Averett came out victorious at No. 1 doubles to level things at one. Senior

Eleanor Crane defeated their opponents 8-3 for the pair's sixth consecutive win in the No. 1 doubles slot. The Monarchs won the last doubles match to regain the advantage heading into singles play.
After Methodist extended their lead to 4-1 with wins at No. 3 and 2 singles, the Cougars collected a couple wins of their own. Sarkkinen came out victorious in the No. 1 singles match with the 16th regionally-ranked tennis player winning 6-2, 6-1. Freshman
Kristina Hedelt followed in Sarkkinen's footsteps with a 7-5, 6-3 triumph at No. 4 singles to cut the Methodist lead to 4-3.
Unfortunately, the Monarchs won the remaining two singles matches to leave the 6-3 final score in favor of Methodist.
Averett returns to action on Tuesday when the Cougars celebrate Senior Day by hosting Greensboro College. Doubles matches are set to begin at 3:30 p.m.
