Men's soccer drops road matchup to Randolph-Macon

DANVILLE, Va. In its first road game of the 2019 season, the Averett University men's soccer team lost to Randolph-Macon College, 3-1, on Sunday afternoon.

Averett (0-2) got on the board first as sophomore Lluc Pou sent a free kick into the box that bounced around before sophomore Johnny Kummander appeared to have cleaned it up for a goal that gave the Cougars a 1-0 lead 23 minutes into the game. Yet, the goal was ruled as an own goal off the Randolph-Macon defender.

Randolph-Macon (1-1) answered shortly after to tie the game at 1-1 with 15 minutes left in the first half, a score that would hold through halftime.

The Yellow Jackets got started quickly in the second half, scoring off a corner kick at the 47-minute mark before scoring again just under five minutes later to expand their lead to 3-1. Neither team scored for the remainder of the game as Randolph-Macon escaped with the win.

After Averett held a 7-5 shot advantage in the first half, the Yellow Jackets flipped the switch in the second to finish the game with a 15-10 edge. Sophomore Baste Endresen led the team with three shots, two on goal, while sophomore Patrick Miller added two shots with one on goal.

The Cougars return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 4, when they take on Bridgewater College on the road at 4:30 p.m.
