Women's soccer drops hard fought road matchup against Eastern Mennonite

HARRISONBURG, Va. — The Averett University women's soccer team fell 2-0 on the road Sunday afternoon to Eastern Mennonite University.

Eastern Mennonite (2-0) scored the first of its two first half goals with just under 20 minutes remaining in the opening half, scoring on a header aided by a corner kick to take an early 1-0 lead and adding a second goal just over two minutes later to extend its lead to 2-0.

Averett's (0-2) lone scoring opportunity came late in the second half when senior Emily Meador fired a shot on frame that was turned away by EMU's goalkeeper.

The Royals finished the contest with a 34-3 shot advantage, while sophomore netminder Morgann Dills collected 11 saves in the game.

Averett returns to action on Wednesday when it hosts Emory & Henry College beginning at 6 p.m.
