The Series: Averett is 6-13 all-time against Ferrum, a series that dates back to 2000 when the Cougars began their football program. Ferrum leads the series 7-3 in games at Adams Stadium. However, Averett has won three of the last four meetings, including the past two matchups against the Panthers. Last season, Averett won 20-13 in Danville.
Averett at a Glance:  After winning their opener on the road at Hampden-Sydney College, the Cougars are coming off a tough 30-27 home loss to Old Dominion Athletic Conference favorite Randolph-Macon College on Sept. 14. Averett used several big plays in that game to take the lead early, including returning the opening kickoff 85 yards for a touchdown and getting a 99-yard interception return for a touchdown in the second quarter. The Cougars will look to get back to their winning ways against their former conference rival Ferrum, who left for the ODAC after the 2017 season. Averett head coach Cleive Adams will be inducted into the Ferrum Sports Hall of Fame on Saturday as well.
Ferrum at a Glance: The Panthers, who were picked fourth in the ODAC preseason poll, opened the season with a 55-7 drubbing of Greensboro College after having a bye to open the season. Ferrum totaled nearly 600 yards of offense against the Pride, who were picked last in the USA South preseason poll. The Panthers return several key players, including running back Brian Mann, who rushed for 144 yards and two touchdowns against Greensboro. Ferrum's defense also made three interceptions, including a pick-six, in the win.
