— Averett University women's tennis sophomore
Rainey Townsend's singles flight championship highlighted the Cougars play Sunday on the final day of the Methodist University Fall Invitational.
Townsend won her Flight 7 singles draw by taking down Methodist's Allyson Hays, 6-3, 6-0.
Freshman
Nakia-Lee Goodall also advanced to her flight championship on Sunday. Goodall lost a tough one to Roanoke College's Janny Alvarado for the Flight 6 title. Alvarado won 5-7, 6-3, 1-0 (7).
Additionally, freshman
Fabienne Bachmann won the Flight 1 consolation bracket, beating Roanoke's Jesse Kennedy 6-1, 6-2. Meanwhile, junior
Eleanor Crane fell in her Flight 1 consolation match to Methodist's Allison Himes, who won 1-6, 6-3, 1-0 (8).
In Flight 2, junior
Louise Hovhammar beat Methodist's Jessica Tucker in the third-place match, 6-2, 6-1. In Flight 3, sophomore
Inka Zeilstra fell to Meredith College's Alana Henneberry in the consolation championship, 6-4, 6-4. Freshman
Alejandra Garcia also fell in her Flight 4 consolation championship. Division II University of Mount Olive's Maria Impalea edged Garcia 6-1, 6-2.
