LYNCHBURG, Va. — Sophomore Adriana Perez records two goals and fellow sophomore Venla Maatta nets her first collegiate goal in Averett University women's soccer's 7-3 loss to Randolph College on the road Wednesday afternoon. 
 
Randolph (4-1-2) jumped out to an early 3-0 advantage over the Cougars as Sara Bane netted a first half hat trick to give the Wildcats an early advantage. 
 
Averett (0-9) got on the board in the 37th minute when the newly added Maatta notched her first collegiate goal in her first collegiate game, off an assist from Perez. 
 
The Wildcats added another goal as time was expiring in the first half to take a 4-1 edge into the break.
 
However, Perez scored in the 59th minute to cut into Randolph's lead at 4-2, but back-to-back goals by Bane to follow, pushed the lead to 6-2 and gave Bane a goal total of five on the afternoon. 
 
The Wildcats would tack on one more goal in the final minutes of regulation to take a commanding 7-2. However, Perez netted her second score of the afternoon in the 87th minute to cut the deficit to 7-3, giving the sophomore five points on the afternoon.
 
Averett returns to action on Saturday when it opens USA South Conference play with a 2 p.m. battle against N.C. Wesleyan College.
