DEMOREST, Ga. — Averett women's soccer dropped its opening game of the Piedmont College Invitational by a final of 4-1 to host Piedmont on Saturday afternoon.
Averett (0-4) struck in the fourth minute of action Saturday to take an early 1-0 lead, when freshman
Madison Morin scored her first collegiate goal on a low ball to the left side of the net.
Piedmont (2-2) tied the match 1-1 in the 34th minute of play on a penalty kick goal, before take a 2-1 lead into halftime, scoring the game-winning score in the 40th minute.
The Lions tacked on two more goals in the second half of play to push their lead to 4-1.
Piedmont finished the match with a 26-4 shot advantage as the Cougars made the most of their opportunities landing three of four shots on frame.
The Cougars return back to action on Sunday against Oglethorpe University in their final game of the Piedmont College Invitational beginning at 12 p.m.
