  • Tournament Information: The Averett University wrestling team is the five-seed in the American College division of the dual-style tournament, set to start on Friday at 9 a.m. A first-round win would move it into the championship bracket, where it would face the winner of Kutztown University and Apprentice School on Saturday at 2 p.m. A loss would move the Cougars into the consolation bracket, where it would face the loser of the aforementioned contest on Friday at 1 p.m. See the links above for the tournament website and bracket for the full schedule.
  • The Series: This will be Averett's third trip to the Virginia Duals, but the team has gone 0-3 in each of the last two years. This will be the first ever meeting between Averett and Liberty University. Of the other teams who will be at the duals, Averett has only ever faced Alderson Broaddus University, Kutztown University and Ferrum College in dual competition.
  • Averett at a Glance: The Cougars enter this tournament 2-3 on the year in dual competition. Most recently, Averett is coming off the Jim Crytzer Invitational, where juniors Sam Braswell and Brandon Woody won titles at 125 and 141 pounds, respectively. Meanwhile, freshman Trent Ragland reached the championship bout to place second at heavyweight, while four other Cougars placed in their respective classes. Additionally, it has been a news-heavy month for the wrestling team, highlighted by Braswell and Woody earning top-10 rankings in both the d3wrestle.com and Intermat polls, as Braswell sits at sixth in both polls and Woody ranks sixth in d3wrestle.com and eighth in Intermat. Also, Averett cracked the top-25 for the first time in program history, ranking 23rd in the Intermat Team Tournament rankings.
