BEREA, Ky. — Averet University men's basketball earned its third win in a row as the Cougars knocked off conference foe Berea College 71-65 on the road Sunday afternoon.
Led by junior
Raymond Bullock III's double-double of 17 points and 10 rebounds, Averet (9-6, 5-2 USA South) held off Berea (7-6, 3-3 USA South) in the final minutes. The Mountaineers trimmed a 10-point deficit down to 60-59 with 4:37 to play. Bullock scored Averett's next two baskets to fend off Berea, and junior
Bryson Davis drilled a big 3-pointer with 1:50 remaining to extend the Cougars' advantage to 67-61. Averett hit four of its six free throws over the final minute to hold on.
Averett came out hot in the first half, taking a 16-10 lead in the opening minutes. The Cougars led the rest of the first period, taking a 44-32 advantage into halftime.
The Cougars shot 42.2 percent from the floor, including 8-for-20 from beyond the arc. Junior
Montre' Cash added 13 points, eight boards and four assists off the bench, while sophomore
Isaiah Jones had nine points and freshman
Bryson McLaughlin had eight points and five rebounds.
Averett also out-rebounded Berea 49-30 for the game.
The Cougars next face William Peace University on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
