ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. — The Averett University women's basketball team dropped a 74-62 USA South Conference decision to N.C. Wesleyan College on the road Wednesday evening.

Averett (16-8, 10-5 USA South) got off to a slow start to open play on Wednesday, going down 20-10 following the opening quarter, but managed to get back on track in the second quarter, pulling within 45-39 of the Battling Bishops at the half.

N.C. Wesleyan (18-5, 13-2 USA South) capitalized on a strong third quarter to stretch its lead back to double digits and kept a close final quarter to hang on for the 74-62 victory.Â

Senior
Ravyn Johnson finished with a team-high 16 points and tied a game-high nine rebounds, while freshman
Courtney Scott finished with 14 points.Â

Additionally, sophomore
Camryn Lunsford and senior
Brooke Carthon posted double-digit point totals, as Lunsford finished with 12 points and Carthon added 11 points and seven rebounds.Â

The Cougars finish the 2019-20 regular-season on Saturday, when they host Salem College at 2 p.m. for senior day.Â
