LYNCHBURG, Va. — The Averett University men's lacrosse team fell to Randolph College on the road, 8-4, on Saturday afternoon.
 
Averett (0-3) got off to a slow start, falling into an early 4-0 deficit to Randolph (1-1) in the first quarter. However, the Cougars rebounded in the second quarter, holding the Wildcats scoreless but were unable to get on the board themselves, trailing 4-0 at halftime.
 
Averett then got on the board in the third quarter, as junior Nate Hann scored off an assist from sophomore Mike Michaud to make it a 4-1 game. After Randolph added two more goals, the Cougars answered with two of their own, as sophomore Parker Corbett scored off an assist from Hann before Hann added his second goal of the day with sophomore Ballard Earley assisting as Averett cut Randolph's lead to 7-3 heading into the fourth quarter. Hann scored his third goal of the day early in the fourth quarter, but the Cougars were unable to get anything else going, falling to Randolph 8-4.
 
 
Hann, who was Averett's leading scorer coming into the game, finished the day with his second hat trick of the season while adding one assist on a team-high five shots with three on goal. Defensively, junior Miska Granlund led the team with six ground balls and two caused turnovers, while junior Rafael Walker added three ground balls and two caused turnovers. In goal, junior Jacob Shriver made 12 saves.
 
 
The Cougars return to action on Feb. 29 when they host Alvernia University at 1 p.m. for their first home game of the 2020 season.
