MONTGOMERY, Ala. — The Averett University baseball team dropped its series finale 6-1 to Huntingdon College on Sunday in USA South action. 
 
Huntingdon (6-1, 3-0 USA South) struck for three runs in the bottom half of the first inning to take a 3-0 advantage on Sunday off after junior Ryan Traylor.
 
However, Traylor would settle down, pitching six solid innings, scattering six hits and striking out three batters. 
 
Averett (0-8, 0-3 USA South) allowed three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning as Huntingdon extended its lead to 6-0, but the Cougars answered in the top of the ninth inning when senior Andrew Lancaster plated senior Chase McKinney on and RBI error to second base. 
 
Sophomore Brandon Hatcher led the charge offensively for the Cougars collecting two hits on the afternoon, while McKinney, junior Tanner Bradshaw and freshman Nolan Maccabe all tallied hits.
 
Averett returns to action on Wednesday when it travels to Harrisonburg, Virginia for a 3 p.m. battle with Eastern Mennonite University.
