Peasley scores hat trick in women's lacrosse loss to Roanoke

DANVILLE, Va. — Junior Elizabeth Peasley netted a hat trick in Averett University women's lacrosse's 25-4 loss to Roanoke College on Tuesday in non-conference action.

Roanoke (1-1) jumped out to an early 12-0 advantage on Tuesday as Lilly Blair scored six of her team-high 10 goals, including a run of four straight to give the Maroons an early advantage.

Averett (0-2) got on the board at the 9:13 mark in the first half when sophomore Courtney DeLone netted her first goal of the 2020 season.

Peasley scored her first goal with just under three minutes remaining in the half, but the Maroons controlled a 15-2 lead at the half.

Roanoke added seven unanswered goals in the second half to extend its lead to 22-2, before Peasley broke the Cougars scoring drought with her fourth goal of the season, later adding her hat trick goal with under a minute remaining in regulation to cut into the Maroons lead at 25-4.

Sophomore Emily Eby finished with a career-high 11 saves in net for the Cougars, while Averett controlled 11 draw controls on the afternoon.

The Cougars return to action Monday when they travel to Baltimore, Maryland for the first of two matchups against Goucher College on March 2 at 4 p.m. and Hood College on March 3 at 3:30 p.m.
