DANVILLE, Va. — Seniors Ravyn Johnson and Brooke Carthon posted double-doubles to power Averett University women's basketball past Methodist University 82-61 on Wednesday in USA South Conference action.
Averett (15-7, 9-4 USA South) jumped out to an early 24-7 advantage following a strong opening quarter as freshman Courtney Scott finished with seven of her game-high 20 points.
Methodist (3-19, 2-11 USA South) managed to capitalize in the second quarter, winning 19-17 and pulling within 41-26 of the Cougars heading in to the break.
The Monarch would win the third quarter 18-16, but Averett exploded for 25 points in the final quarter to preserve the 82-61 victory.
Johnson matched Scott's game-high 20 points, finishing with a game-high 15 rebounds, 10 of which came at the offensive end of the court.
Carthon added a 12-point, 13-rebound double-double, moving past Pam Dabbs for third place on the all-time scoring list.
Additionally, sophomore Courtney Hunt finished with a career-high 18 points, while sophomore Genesis Weiters pulled down 11 rebounds.
Averett finished with a 60-31 rebound margin, matching a season-high set against Mid-Atlantic Christian University.
The Cougars return to action on Saturday when they battle William Peace University on the road at 2 p.m.
