LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. — The Averett University baseball team dropped its USA South Conference series opener against Covenant College 22-0 in seven innings on Friday.
Covenant (8-4, 4-0 USA South) benefitted from runs in both the first and second inning to take a 2-0 advantage, before erupting in the third for 15 runs to take a commanding 17-0 edge.
The Scots scored five runs over their final three innings to push their advantage to 22-0, finishing with a program-best five home runs on the afternoon, including two by Kenny Mills.
Averett (0-14, 0-7 USA South) finished the afternoon with three hits as freshman
Kyle Wilson recorded the Cougars only extra- ase knock with a double, while sophomore
Jason Maggs and senior
Chase McKinney each added hits.
The Cougars return to action on Saturday for a doubleheader against Covenant, beginning at noon.
