DANVILLE, Va. — White captured the momentum it needed for a 3-0 win over Gold with the help of a big second-set comeback in Averett University volleyball's fourth intrasquad scrimmage of the fall on Wednesday night in the Grant Center. White won 25-12, 27-25, 25-15.
An intense, competitive match not indicative of the score, both teams made solid runs at times. After a slow start in Set 1, Gold started Set 2 in strong fashion and built a solid lead before White forced extra points. Led by junior
Zamyiah Mangum's double-double of 14 kills and 16 digs, White rallied to win Set 2 and prevailed in Set 3.

Sarah Shropshire added nine kills and eight digs, freshman
Sarah Marlowe had eight kills and five blocks, freshman
Erin Gray had a team-high 17 digs and senior
McKenzie Miller finished with 35 assists, 10 digs and seven kills for White, which hit .227 as a team. Mangum hit 3.55, with Marlowe hitting .583.
Gold was led by senior
Myka Patterson's nine kills and 13 digs, while sophomore
Lauren Montren has a team-best 19 digs. Freshman
Makkenzie Compton had a double-double of 23 assist and 11 digs and freshman
Destiny McIntosh finished with four blocks and six kills while hitting .267.
The Cougars will take the weekend off before returning to action in their next intrasquad scrimmage on Wednesday, Sept. 30, at 7 p.m.
