DANVILLE, Va. — White captured the momentum it needed for a 3-0 win over Gold with the help of a big second-set comeback in Averett University volleyball's fourth intrasquad scrimmage of the fall on Wednesday night in the Grant Center. White won 25-12, 27-25, 25-15.

An intense, competitive match not indicative of the score, both teams made solid runs at times. After a slow start in Set 1, Gold started Set 2 in strong fashion and built a solid lead before White forced extra points. Led by junior Zamyiah Mangum's double-double of 14 kills and 16 digs, White rallied to win Set 2 and prevailed in Set 3.

Junior Sarah Shropshire added nine kills and eight digs, freshman Sarah Marlowe had eight kills and five blocks, freshman Erin Gray had a team-high 17 digs and senior McKenzie Miller finished with 35 assists, 10 digs and seven kills for White, which hit .227 as a team. Mangum hit 3.55, with Marlowe hitting .583.

Gold was led by senior Myka Patterson's nine kills and 13 digs, while sophomore Lauren Montren has a team-best 19 digs. Freshman Makkenzie Compton had a double-double of 23 assist and 11 digs and freshman Destiny McIntosh finished with four blocks and six kills while hitting .267.

The Cougars will take the weekend off before returning to action in their next intrasquad scrimmage on Wednesday, Sept. 30, at 7 p.m.
