DANVILLE, Va. — Averett University women's basketball got a career-high in scoring from junior
Camryn Lunsford but dropped its home opener to William Peace University 78-61 Sunday afternoon at the Grant Center.
William Peace (2-0, 2-0 USA South) headed into the fourth quarter with an eight-point lead but outscored Averett (0-2, 0-2 USA South) 22-13 in the final 10 minutes of the game leading to a 17-point victory.
Lunsford once again led the way for Averett with a career-high 23 points and three steals. Junior
Genesis Weiters also chipped in 13 points, along with leading the team with a career-high 14 rebounds and three blocks. Junior
Courtney Hunt shot 50 percent from 3-point range adding 12 points and a career high in assists with six.
William Peace was led by Maria Devincenzo, who shot an impressive 60 percent from the field while scoring 17 points and adding nine rebounds.
Averett returns to action on Friday when the Cougars host Meredith College at the Grant Center at 7:30 p.m.
