DANVILLE, Va. — The Averett University women's basketball program completed the series sweep over Methodist University with a 60-48 win on Saturday night in the Grant Center. The Cougars won the offensive rebounding battle 21-5, giving them plenty of second-chance opportunities to help propel Averett to the victory. Â
Â
Averett (2-4, 2-4Â USA South) ended the first quarter up by four but quickly saw that lead vanish as Methodist (0-4, 0-4 USA South) went on an 11-2 run to begin the second quarter which culminated with the Monarchs heading into halftime with a six-point advantage.Â
The third quarter proved to be the most tight quarter of play as the teams exchanged the lead three times and had four ties. The Cougars went up six headed into the final quarter of play after freshman
Demi Case hit a layup to close out the period.
After gaining the lead heading into the fourth quarter, the Cougars never looked back. They extended the lead to 11 following a 3-pointer from junior
