CARY, N.C. — The Averett University men's soccer team battled William Peace University to a 2-2 draw on the road Sunday in USA South Conference action.
Averett (5-6-1, 1-1-1 USA South) got on the board with time winding down in the opening half when freshman
Oliver Kousholt lifted a left footed pass over William Peace's back line that sophomore
Alexander Soerensen slide to the turf and snuck a shot past the Pacer's goalkeeper for the early 1-0 advantage.
William Peace (6-1-1, 1-1-1 USA South) evened the match just 27 second into the second half, but freshman
Orion Mills put the Cougars back in front in the 79th minute with his first collegiate goal. Slipping past the back line, playing a couple of touches before connecting on a shot that beat William Peace's goalie to the left for the 2-1 edge coming off sophomore
Rion Klaas's team-leading fourth assist.
However, that lead was short lived as the Pacers tied the match 2-2 in the 87th minute to force overtime.
William Peace managed to put up a 17-12 shot advantage on the Cougars with a 13-4 shot on goal edge. Sophomore
Tyler Yates collected 10 saves in the match as both teams combined for 27 fouls and two yellow cards on the afternoon.
The Cougars return to action on Wednesday when they travel to Staunton, Virginia for a 4 p.m. USA South battle with Mary Baldwin University.
