DANVILLE, Va. — The Averett University women's soccer team dropped a home match against Southern Virginia 2-1 in overtime Tueasday afternoon on Daly Field at Frank R. Campbell Stadium.
Averett (5-5-1, 3-3-0 USA South) saw its only goal come from freshman
Celia de Diego in the 8th minute boosting the Cougars to an early 1-0 lead. Senior
Thania Hernandez was credited with the assist.
Southern Virginia (8-4-2, 4-2-0 USA South) out shot the Cougars 16-8 for the game which proved to be the difference. The Knights tied the game up in the 50th minute of play leveling the score right out of the halftime break sending the game to overtime.
In golden goal overtime Southern Virginia walked it off in the first period in the 92th minute.
Averett is back in action on Saturday, Oct. 16, at 2 p.m. when it hosts to Pfeiffer University for Senior Day.
