DANVILLE, Va. — Averett University volleyball defeated conference foe Mary Baldwin University 3-0 on Wednesday night in the Grant Center, topping the Fighting Squirrels 25-17, 25-12 and 25-12.
Averett (15-5, 7-3 USA South) controlled the match from the start, hitting just under .300 as a team for the match as 16 Cougars saw action. Senior Sarah Shopshire and junior
Morgan Barnes led the attack with nine kills and eight kills, respectively. Sophomore
Erin Gray had a team-high 15 digs and four service aces, with sophomore
Makkenzie Compton leading the team with 20 assists. Sophomore
Emma Nash had three blocks and freshman
Kinsley Stevens chipped in 15 assists and seven digs for Averett, which improved to 31-0 against Mary Baldwin since 1992.
Averett returns to action on Friday at home against Bridgewater College at 6 p.m. in a non-conference match.
