Game Notes: Averett vs. Huntingdon
The Series: Huntingdon holds the all-time series lead 6-2, including a 4-1 mark against Averett in games played in Montgomery. The two teams have split their last two meetings, with Huntingdon winning 41-35 when they last met during the 2019 season.
Averett at a Glance: Averett University travels to play USA South Conference foe Huntingdon College on Saturday. Averett is coming off its bye week following a 17-9 home loss to N.C. Wesleyan College on Oct. 2. Despite the loss, the Cougars owned the stat sheet against N.C. Wesleyan as quarterback Bryce Jackson threw for 300-plus yards for the sixth consecutive game and senior receiver Isaiah Grice tied the program single-game record with 11 catches for 151 yards. Averett will look to convert on its red zone opportunities this week against the Hawks after only going 2-for-7 against the Bishops in those situations, which proved to be the difference.
Huntingdon at a Glance: After starting the season 0-2, Huntingdon has gone 3-0 in USA South play. Last weekend, the Hawks beat Southern Virginia University 48-20 on the road. Huntingdon has relied heavily on the run attack, averaging 259.2 yards per game on the ground. Averett has only allowed 108.2 yards rushing per contest this season through five games.
