GREENSBORO, N.C. — The Averett University men's soccer team battled Greensboro College to a 1-1 draw in its final game of the 2021 regular season on the road Saturday afternoon.
Greensboro (8-7-2, 4-1-2 USA South) scored just before halftime to take a 1-0 advantage into the break.
Averett (8-6-2, 4-1-2 USA South) evened the match 1-1 in the 63rd minute when senior
Johnny Kummander tallied his team leading seventh goal of the season off an assist by fellow senior
Lluc Pou.
The Cougars have an opportunity to pick up the victory in the first overtime period when freshman
Moises Garcia put a shot on goal that was corralled by Greensboro.
The final overtime period featured just one-shot attempt by the Cougars as both teams were held in check over the final 20 minutes of sudden death overtime.
With the tie, Averett moves to No. 4 in the final USA South Conference East Division standings based of final tiebreaker results and advances to the first round beginning on Oct. 30 with a location and time still to be determined.
