DANVILLE, Va. — Averett University volleyball picked up a 3-0 win over conference foe Greensboro College on Thursday night in the Grant Center, winning 25-15, 25-17 and 25-23 for a sweep of the Pride.
Averett (21-7, 11-5 USA South) overcame a slow start in Set 1 to run away with the first game. That momentum carried over into Set 2 as Averett opened with a 9-3 advantage en route to another big win to go up 2-0 in the match. Although Averett began Set 3 with a 6-0 lead, Greensboro (14-16, 6-10 USA South) clawed back to challenge the Cougars to briefly take a 21-20 lead. However, Averett got back-to-back kills from junior
Lauren Montren to finish off the Pride in the third set.
Montren finished with team-highs of nine kills and 11 digs to lead Averett to a regular season sweep of the series against Greensboro. Sophomore
Emma Nash added seven kills, while senior
Sarah Shropshire and junior
Morgan Barnes each had six kills. Sophomore
Erin Gray and freshman
Carlie Deason each chipped in eight digs, with freshman
Kinsley Stevens finishiing with 19 assists and seven digs.
Averett hosts N.C. Wesleyan College and Meredith College in a conference tri-match on Saturday, beginning at noon, to finish the regular season schedule.
