STAUNTON, Va. — The Averett University women's soccer team dropped an away conference match against Mary Baldwin University 2-1 Wednesday afternoon on SMA Worth Field.
Averett (4-4-1, 2-2-0 USA South) saw its only goal come from freshman
Celia de Diego in the 15th minute which continues her scoring streak. Senior
Thania Hernandez was credited with the assist giving the Cougars a 1-0 advantage early in the match.
Mary Baldwin (6-4-1, 2-1-1 USA South) was held scoreless until the final 20 minutes of play where they found two goals. The game winning goal came in the 88th minute of the match.
The Cougars were outshot by five in the second half but only put one less shot on goal then Mary Baldwin in total.
Averett is back in action on Saturday, Oct. 9, at 1 p.m. when it hosts to Greensboro College.
