DANVILLE, Va. — Averett University women's soccer ended a five-game losing streak against Greensboro College with a 1-0 win Saturday afternoon on Daly Field at Frank R. Campbell Stadium.
Averett (5-4-1, 3-2-0 USA South) saw freshman
Celia de Diego drill a one timer into the back of the net in the 79th minute off a corner kick from sophomore
Emily Brinson which proved to be the difference for the Cougars. De Diego now has 13 goals on the year scoring in every match for Averett.
Greensboro (3-8-2,1-3-1 USA South) only tallied three shots in the first half before turning up the pressure on the Cougars and creating 10 shots in the second half. The Cougars had one more shot on goal then the Pride with seven to Greensboro's six.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Alyson Kinkopf earned five saves in the second half while keeping a clean sheet.
Averett is back in action Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. when it hosts to Sounthern Virginia University.
