Averett vs. N.C. Wesleyan
The Series: The Cougars are 41-60 all-time against N.C. Wesleyan dating back to the 1976-77 season. Averett has won six of the last eight meetings. N.C. Wesleyan won both regular season meetings last spring, but the Cougars won 82-72 in the USA South Tournament East Division semifinals.
Averett at a Glance: Averett opens its USA South Conference schedule at N.C. Wesleyan College on Saturday. Averett is fresh off Wednesday's 74-58 win at Randolph College. Averett trailed 46-43 at halftime in its last contest at Randolph. The Cougars' defense stepped up in the second half and limited Randolph to only 12 points total in the second period, which helped Averett surge ahead for the win. With that win over Randolph, Averett head coach
David Doino earned his 96th overall win and is one win away from tying the program record for career wins. Averett Athletics Hall of Famer Jimmy Allen, who coached the Cougars from 2004-10 and is now the head coach at Division I Army, holds the program mark with 97 victories.
N.C. Wesleyan at a Glance: N.C. Wesleyan has won two in a row after picking up a pair of wins at its own Roger Taylor Invitational Dec. 3-4. In the final matchup last Saturday, the Bishops beat Virginia University of Lynchburg 68-55 following a 91-73 win over St. Andrews University the previous day.
