The Series: The Cougars are 17-70 all-time against Christopher Newport dating back to the 1976-77 season. The two schools were once conference foes in the USA South before CNU departed the conference after the 2012-13 season. Their last meeting came during the 2013 USA South Conference Tournament when the Captains won 74-58 in the quarterfinals. The Captains have won seven in a row in the series.
Averett at a Glance: Averett travels to play No. 17 Christopher Newport in non-conference action on Saturday to renew a rivalry against former conference foes. Averett is coming off its first win of the season, a 78-64 home victory over Shenandoah University on Nov. 28.
