DANVILLE, Va. — The Averett University women's basketball program fell to N.C. Wesleyan College 71-54 Friday night in Everett Gym. The Cougars were out rebounded by 28 which led to their winning streak coming to a halt against the Battling Bishops.

Averett (4-5, 4-5 USA South) battled tough against the only undefeated conference team in the USA South but gave up to many second chance opportunities. N.C. Wesleyan (8-1, 7-0 USA South) ended the first quarter on a 9-2 run and headed into the second quarter up 22-14.
The Battling Bishops were only able to extend its lead by 1 before heading to the half with a nine point advantage. Much like the first quarter, N.C. Wesleyan made another surge in the third quarter of play, which proved to be the difference as they gained the largest lead of the game at 18.

The Cougars struck within 12 with 7:42 remaining to play after junior
Camryn Lunsford drained back to back threes. Lunsford had 17 points and four assists. Junior
Genesis Weiters tied her career-high in points with 18 and set a career best in blocks with 7.
Averett was also led by junior
Courtney Hunt who added seven points and four assists.
N.C. Wesleyan was led by Javana Jones, who had 14 points and eight rebounds.
Averett returns to action on Sunday afternoon when it hosts N.C. Wesleyan College for a 4 p.m. matchup.
