MISENHEIMER, N.C. — Averett University men's basketball rolled to its third consecutive win with an 86-71 conference victory over Pfeiffer University on Wednesday afternoon.
Averett (3-3, 3-2 USA South) continued its hot shooting from beyond the arc, especially early against Pfeiffer (3-2, 3-2 USA South). The Cougars' first three baskets were all 3-pointers as they built a 9-4 advantage. The Falcons stayed within striking distance midway through the first period, but Averett's outside shooting helped boost the Cougars' lead to 44-29 at the break.
Pfeiffer made a run midway through the second half to get within 69-61 with 6:12 to play. Once again, Averett hit crucial 3-pointers to extend the lead back to double digits as it sealed the win down the stretch.
Averett hit a season-high 14 3-pointers, shooting 14-for-30 beyond the arc. As a team, the Cougars shot nearly 48 percent from the floor overall while also winning the battle on the glass 42-33.

Montre' Cash led the Cougars with 22 points, eight rebounds and five assists, while redshirt junior
Isaiah Jones had 17 points and five rebounds. Freshman
Jason Sellars II added 12 points, while senior
Bryson Davis and sophomore
Corey Baldwin each finished with 11 points.
Averett is scheduled to host Greensboro College on Friday at 4:30 p.m.
