Second half surge pushes Ferrum past men's lacrosse

DANVILLE, Va. — The Averett University men's lacrosse program fell short 12-6 against Ferrum College on Wednesday night on Daly Field at Frank R. Campbell Stadium.

Averett (1-1) struck first as freshman Liam Taylor scored his sixth and seventh goals of the year in the first quarter of action giving the Cougars a 2-1 advantage.

Ferrum (1-0) faced a 4-1 deficit after Averett freshman Connor Taff and senior Rafeal Walker added goals in the second period. The Panthers were able to cut into the lead with back to back scores trailing 4-3 at the half.

After scoring the two goals to end the second quarter, the Panthers came out of the break and shut the Cougars out in the third period. Ferrum scored six unanswered goals that period which extended its scoring run total to 8-0. Averett faced a 9-4 deficit entering the final quarter of play.

Junior Parker Corbett ended the Panthers run with a man-up goal early in the fourth. Corbett then added his second goal of the year later in the period on another man-up opportunity.
